Q1: How to fix a gap between wood trim and LVP?

A: To fix a gap between wood baseboard trim and Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), install a color-matched quarter round or shoe molding directly to the baseboard. Never nail the molding into the LVP itself, as the floor must be allowed to float and expand. If the gap is between two different flooring surfaces rather than a wall, an aluminum t-molding tile to wood transition should be used instead.

A: Apply a continuous bead of high-grab polyurethane construction adhesive directly into the expansion gap, then press the stem of the T-molding firmly into the glue. Weight the transition strip down with heavy objects or painter’s tape for 24 hours. This is also the most reliable method for how to fix a t-molding floor transition if the original track has bent or failed.

A: Use the included slitter tool to score and snap off the unnecessary side flanges (such as the carpet reducer and stair nose attachments). Once the side profiles are removed, you are left with a symmetrical central T-shape designed to bridge two hard surface floors of equal height.

A: The best trim options for a tile-over-tile installation are retrofit L-angle extrusions or a heavy duty metal T-shaped tile trim. Because installing new tile directly over old tile doubles the wall thickness, standard bullnose will not cover the exposed layers. A wide metallic T-profile or a deep L-angle trim can cleanly cap the exposed double-edge, concealing the old tile completely.

A: Embed an extruded aluminum or PVC square-edge tile trim into the thin-set mortar behind the final perimeter row of tiles. This creates a permanent, waterproof seal between the ceramic and the drywall, protecting the brittle tile edges from impact while eliminating the need for fragile caulked joints.
